Student, Ex-Student Held In Alleged Sex Assault At SCSU

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – A student and a former student at Southern Connecticut State University have been charged in the sexual assault of a woman inside a campus dormitory.

The woman went to police at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday to report that she had been attacked.

University spokesman Patrick Dilger says 19-year-old Tyshawn Cannon is charged with first-degree sexual assault and 21-year-old Lenroy Neysmith of Meriden is charged with conspiracy to commit sexual assault.

Cannon recently withdrew from the school, and Dilger tells the New Haven Register the school is investigating why he was still living on campus.

Both men made initial court appearances Monday. Cannon is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond. Bail for Nyesmith was set at $75,000. It is not clear if they have attorneys.

Final exams at Southern end on Friday.
