Mom Charged With Allowing Teens To Drink At Post-Prom Party

A South Windsor mother is under arrest for allegedly allowing teenagers to consume alcohol at a party following the junior prom at South Windsor High School Saturday night.

Officers were called to 142 Krawski Drive early Sunday morning on a complaint of underage drinking to find 40-50 youths in the home, carrying beer cans, beer bottles, and liquor bottles, said police.

Wendy Burnham, 45, told police that she allowed her son to host a “small party after the junior prom,” but she went to bed and wasn’t aware that anyone was drinking alcohol, said authorities.

Police say they entered the home to check on the welfare of the teenagers to find empty beer containers, bottles of rum, whiskey, and a punch bowl with alcoholic punch. Authorities also report finding the kitchen table set up to play “beer pong.”

Burnham was arrested on charges of risk of injury to a minor and permitting a minor to possess alcohol. She was released on $2,500 non-surety bond, and is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on May 26.

Police say none of the party guests was arrested– officers opting to leave the discipline up to parents.
