Rally Celebrates Pratt & Whitney Successes
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Several hundred Pratt & Whitney machinists joined company executives and politicians for a lunch-time rally celebrating a string of business successes for the East Hartford-based jet engine maker.
The subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. has been buoyed in recent months by purchase orders for its next-generation engine and a decision by Congress that left the company as the only manufacturer of the Pentagon’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jet engine.
The company also will be making engines for Boeing’s new refueling tanker plane. Boeing is expected to build 179 of the planes, all powered by Pratt engines.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy told the crowd that the company’s success bodes well for the rest of Connecticut’s economy.
