18 Month Sentence in Body Armor Case
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A Manchester man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for illegally buying a bullet-proof vest.
Waheed Islam pleaded guilty in January to the charge of possession of body armor by a violent felon. Authorities say he had previously been convicted of multiple crimes including assault and robbery.
U.S. prosecutors say the sentence was handed down Friday in U.S. District Court in Hartford.
Prosecutors say Islam placed an order with an overseas company for the vest. Federal agents intercepted the package, monitored its delivery to Islam’s home and returned later with a search warrant.
Islam has been in custody since December. He faced 18 to 24 months in prison under sentencing guidelines.
