Delay Means Shelton Students Miss Launch

SHELTON, Conn. (AP) _ A group of Shelton students is heading back to Connecticut after missing the chance to watch its science experiment head to space on the shuttle Endeavour.

The five students’ experiment was the only one from Connecticut selected for the shuttle trip. They traveled to Florida for last Friday’s anticipated launch, but it was delayed because of technical problems.

Some students left Florida on Sunday, and others are returning to Connecticut on Monday and Tuesday. They still hope to gather as a group to watch Endeavour’s liftoff on television when it is rescheduled.

The shuttle will carry an experiment by the Shelton students that involves growing bacteria to test microgravity’s effect on how certain cell walls develop.

NASA has said the shuttle will not launch before Sunday.
