NORWALK, Conn. (AP) _ A Norwalk woman who allegedly let a homeless friend use her address to enroll her son in school says she is now homeless, too.
Ana Marquez says she and her two sons are living in a Bridgeport shelter since being evicted from their Norwalk public housing unit for helping 33-year-old Tanya McDowell.
McDowell is charged with larceny for allegedly claiming Marquez was her son’s guardian and using her address to send the kindergartener to Norwalk schools. Authorities say he belonged in Bridgeport schools, McDowell’s most recent address.
Marquez tells The Hour of Norwalk that she baby-sat McDowell’s son and was shocked to lose her apartment for helping her friend. Housing officials say Marquez had already been warned for repeatedly violating her lease.
Marquez faces no criminal charges in McDowell’s case.
