Suspect In Series Of Rapes Pleads Not Guilty To Theft

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ A New Haven man awaiting trial in a series of rapes and other attacks along the East Coast has pleaded not guilty to a minor larceny charge over theft of a bicycle.

The New Haven Register reports the plea was entered Monday for Aaron Thomas on the fourth-degree larceny charge.

Thomas has been held since his March 4 arrest on rape and other charges in New Haven. Authorities say DNA confirmed he was responsible for rapes and other attacks on 17 women from Virginia to Connecticut. He is charged with one rape in Connecticut and three in Virginia.

Assistant State’s Attorney Stacey Haupt said Thomas will likely face trial in New Haven on a first-degree sexual assault allegation before he is tried in Virginia. He has pleaded not guilty in Connecticut.
