It was a subdued start to Spring Weekend at UConn, the annual party before the start of finals.
Eight criminal arrests were made through 3:00 this morning on the first night of Spring Weekend. Five suspects had no ties to the school
Those arrested face a variety of charges from possession of marijuana to weapons violations. UConn Police also issued 35 infractions and written warnings for motor vehicles.
Its part of a crackdown the school instituted in the wake a student’s death last year. 20-year old Jafar Karzoun was killed last April during a fight in an off-campus parking lot.
The university sent out emails two weeks ago informing students that no overnight dorm visits would be allowed and non-students would not be allowed at off-campus apartments, the site of raucous parties in the past.
