A woman with ties to New Haven is in custody of Libyan forces loyal to Moammar Gadhafi.

Clare Morgana Gillis was in Libya working as a freelance journalist, when she and three other reporters were detained.

Her father, Robert Gillis says he is surprised at how calm he and his wife have been.

“We have a lot of friends in New Haven and the area who have been solicitous for us,” Robert Gillis said.  “They stopped by the house and reassured us, and socialized a bit.  It is stressful, no doubt about it.”

“Our daughter is a very curious person by nature, and when she sets her mind to do something, she does it,” Robert Gillis said.

The Atlantic has covered the detention.

Gillis was writing for news organizations including USA Today and The Atlantic.
