Pedestrian Dies; Driver May Have Been Distracted

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ Police say a 74-year-old Bridgeport woman struck by a car while stepping off a city bus has died.

Cristina DeJara, died Wednesday morning at Bridgeport Hospital as a result of her injuries, two days after she was struck.

No charges have yet been filed against the 30-year-old driver of the car involved, but police said his use of a cellphone may have been a factor and the investigation is continuing.

Police did not release information on DeJara’s injuries.

Police say the accident should be warning about cellphone use while driving.
