NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ A Yale University linguist who used her expertise to relearn to talk after a car accident in New Hampshire with a Hell’s Angel motorcyclist has died.

Ted Walls said his 44-year-old wife, Maria Babyonyshev , died March 18 at their home in North Kingstown, R.I., of complications from the accident. It occurred during New Hampshire’s 2006 Motorcycle Week.

There were 10 deaths that year during the annual event.

Babyonyshev, who suffered strokes, broken bones and head trauma, had to learn to talk again. Walls said she was able to make a “stunning recovery” because of her expertise.

Colleagues say she made important contributions to the linguistics field.
