MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (AP) _ A Connecticut man is accused of stabbing a Connecticut woman to death inside a car parked at a motel in Middletown.
Middletown police say 24-year-old Zachary J. Lepelusa of Milford, Conn., is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in District Court in Newport on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping. He’s accused of killing 35-year-old Antoinette Venditti of East Haven, Conn.
Police say they got a 911 call Tuesday that a man was stabbing a woman inside a car in a Residence Inn parking lot.
A detective spotted the car at a beach a short time later. The driver drove off, then fled from his car, when he was caught.
Venditti’s body was found in a ditch.
Chief Anthony Pesare (puh-SAHR’-ee) says it’s the first homicide in Middletown in a decade.
