Man Killed In Woodchipper Incident

OLD LYME, Conn. (AP) – Police say a 58-year-old tree service employee has died after being struck at an Old Lyme work site by a woodchipper attached to a truck.

The man’s identity was not immediately released Tuesday as authorities continued to investigate the incident, which occurred shortly before noon.

Police say the woodchipper was being hauled by a company truck, and that the worker was fatally injured when that vehicle backed up and he was trapped under the woodchipper’s trailer.

The man was taken to Shoreline Clinic in Essex, where he was pronounced dead. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating circumstances of the incident.
