A longtime administrator at Quinnipiac University Law School has been sentenced to six months of home confinement for her role in a scheme to defraud a mortgage lender and for filing false tax returns.
Mary Ellen Durso of Milford was also sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in New Haven to three years of probation and ordered to pay back taxes and restitution.
Prosecutors say the 55-year-old Durso, assistant dean of academic affairs and registrar, conspired with others to commit bank fraud by filing a false loan application to refinance a condominium in Florida. Authorities say she also filed false tax returns for 2004 to 2008 by inflating itemized deductions.
Authorities say the combined loss was about $126,000.
Her lawyer said she trusted the wrong people.
