36 Of 39 First Place Votes For UConn Women

Connecticut remains No. 1 in women’s college basketball, with the first five teams in the Top 25 unchanged in the poll by The Associated Press.

UConn received 36 of the 39 first-places votes Monday and No. 2 Stanford drew the other three. The Huskies host Syracuse on Monday night before playing in the Big East tournament that starts this weekend.

Baylor, Tennessee and Texas A&M round out the first five.

Houston entered the poll at No. 25, its first ranking since 2004. The Conference USA team has won 14 straight games and won’t play until Saturday when it hosts Tulane in its regular-season finale.

Iowa rejoined the Top 25 while West Virginia and Georgia fell out.

One voter was unable to vote this week.
