Rain, Melting Snow Have Officials Watching For Flooding

Officials in local municipalities are keeping their eyes on areas prone to flooding over the next few days. Two significant rainstorms along with the melting snowpack are enough to cause concern. In addition, along Connecticut’s shoreline, there are several areas that experience flooding issues as winter begins to transition toward spring. Milford Mayor Jim Richetelli says public works crews were dispatched Friday to make sure there weren’t any problems. Some of the catch basins in the city were clogged but were cleared before any issues arose.

Richetelli says residents are can be contacted either by reverse 911 or through an early warning system should conditions warrant. He also says officials from neighboring cities and towns keep in touch through their region of the state Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
