State Police say an oversize truck which strick a bridge over Interstate 84 eastbound in East Hartford at the end of the morning rush hour Thursday did not have the appropriate permits for an oversized vehicle. The accident closed Interstate 84, and prompted authorities to take traffic off the highway at Connecticut Boulevard, Exit 53.
The truck was removed from under the bridge around 11:30 a.m. and the eastbound lanes were reopened to traffic shortly before noon.
Traffic reporter Mike Alan, in WTIC’s Air One, reported seeing several heavy-duty wreckers at the scene to deal with the situation.
A DOT spokesman says the truck was hauling empty metal containers.
