HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has named a Yale University professor to oversee a new Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Daniel Esty is a professor of energy law and policy and has written books on how businesses can use environmental policy to improve their competitive advantage.
Malloy tapped him on Thursday to run the proposed Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
The new combined agency still requires legislative approval. Malloy says it would be a mistake if lawmakers don’t approve the concept, which he says will better coordinate energy and environmental policy.
Esty says he is taking a leave of absence from Yale.
