Building Problems Close Tariffville Post Office

Structural damage to the Tariffville Post Office in Simsbury forced emergency evacuation of the building Friday,   with no indication of when workers and patrons would be able to return to the building at 39 Main Street.

Even the outside mail collection box was declared off-limits,  and mail in the boxes in the building, and mail deposited during the course of business Friday is inaccessible inside the building until it opens again.   The Postal Service said it is secure.

People with mailboxes at the Tariffville Post Office can pick up new mail over the counter at the main Simsbury Post Office at 932 Hopmeadow Street.  They must have proper identification.  It is open 8:30 to 5 on weekdays and 9:30 to noon on Saturday.
