Berlin Man Sentenced In Weapons Case
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ A federal judge has sentenced a Connecticut man to more than 8 years in prison for illegally possessing automatic machine guns, silencers, grenades and improvised explosive devices at his booby-trapped house.
Prosecutors say Alan D. Zaleski of Berlin was sentenced to 8 years and five months Thursday in New Haven for what authorities called one of the largest seizures of illegal weapons and paraphernalia in state history.
The 47-year-old Zaleski was found guilty last year of 15 counts of illegally possessing automatic machine guns and 12 counts of possessing unregistered weapons.
Police were led to Zaleski’s house after a tree cutter spotted what appeared to be a tripwire across his driveway and an explosive device. Authorities say his property had several booby traps, including trip wires connected to explosives.
