Propane Explosion Injures Two Portland Firefighters

An explosion and fire in Portland Saturday sent two firefighters to the hospital.  Authorities say a private contractor using a backhoe clearning snow somehow hit a proppane tank.  The firefighters were checking the leak in the primarily residential area on Summer Street when the blast took place.

Serious damage was reported to the house.

Surrounding towns helped battle the resulting flames,  including Middletown, Durham, and Middlefield.
