Waterbury police say a fugitive who fled their city after he was named as a suspect in the election-day-beating death of a poll worker has turned himself in. Arnaldo Gonsalves was walking to a polling place when he was assaulted and robbed by three men. Police already had two suspects in custody, and had been looking for 22-year-old Michael Mark since late November.
They say Mark told them he fled to New York City, where he was homeless, living in the subways, and could not take the pressure of life on the run. He was arrested on felony murder and robbery charges and held in lieu of a milion dollars bail.
Police say they consider Mark the primary suspect in the case, the one who actually carried out the beating. Also in custody are two accomplices, Johnny Martinez and Manuel Vazquez, both age 23.
