Travelling with the University of Connecticut basketball Huskies, WTIC’s Joe D’Ambrosio reports from South Bend, Indiana, that UConn Athletic Director Jeff Hathaway will name Hank Hughes as interim head football coach.
Hughes has been on the Husky staff for ten seasons, and just completed his sixth year as assistant head coach for defense. Hughes is expected to be a contender for the head coaching job, which became vacant yesterday when it was announced that Randy Edsall is leaving to take over as head coach at Maryland.
Hathaway issued a statement extending his own thanks as well as that of the university to Edsall and his family. He said the school will hire the coach “who can best lead and continue to enhance this football program into the future.”
