Sentencing This Week in Weapons Seizure at Booby-Trapped Home

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ A man faces sentencing for illegally possessing automatic machine guns, silencers, grenades and improvised explosive devices at his booby-trapped house.

Alan D. Zaleski of Berlin will be sentenced Friday in federal court in New Haven. Prosecutors say he should get nine to 11 years in prison for one of the largest seizures of illegal weapons and paraphernalia in state history.

The 47-year-old Zaleski was found guilty last year of 15 counts of illegally possessing automatic machine guns and 12 counts of possessing unregistered weapons.

Police were led to Zaleski’s house in 2006 after a tree cutter spotted what appeared to be a tripwire across the man’s driveway and an explosive device. Authorities say his property had several booby traps, including trip wires connected to explosives.
