A  vehicle driven by 16 year old  Jerry Dale  Cox III of Winsted , according to State Police,swerved to the left and then to the right,crossing onto the right shoulder striking a concrete abutment just  before 12:30  pm near Exit 45  northbound on Route 8 in Torrington.CPR was administered at the scene   and Cox was  taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, where he was pronoucned dead.

Cox was a student at Oliver Wolcott Technical School.Grief  counselors will be available  at the school Thursday, the final day of classes before Christmas  vacation.

Route 8  northbound was closed for about   3 and a half hours.State Police  continue to investigate.
