Two Killed in Route 4 Accident

Torrington police say two people were killed in a single vehicle accident on Route 4 shortly before 1:30 this afternoon.  Police say a Hyundai Sonata left the highway,  traveled over the grass, and up and over a boulder —  apparently went airborne over a stream, struck a guardrail and rolled over back onto Route 4.

The female driver was thrown from the vehicle and the male passenger had to be cut out of the front seat.  Both were later pronounced dead at Charlotte Hungerford hospital.

Their identities have not been released.

Police expect to keep route 4 closed until at least this evening for their investigation.
