PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Connecticut running back Jordan Todman has been named the Big East’s offensive player of the year, while the leader of the Fiesta Bowl-bound Huskies is sharing coach-of-the-year honors.

Randy Edsall, who led the Huskies to an 8-4 record and their first BCS appearance, was named co-coach of the year with Louisville’s Charlie Strong. The Cardinals (6-6) are headed to the

Todman averaged more than 143 yards per game, good for second in the nation. Others to be honored include: Louisville safety Hakeem Smith (rookie), Pittsburgh’s Jabaal Sheard (defensive), and South Florida’s Lindsey Lamar (special teams).

The league’s eight coaches vote on the awards.
