The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers has scheduled a contract ratification meeting for Sunday morning in Wallingford for what it says is Pratt and Whitney’s last, best, and final offer on a proposed labor pact to replace the contract that expires Sunday night.

A main point of contention between the union and Pratt during negotiations has been job security provisions, particularly regarding unionized workers at the Cheshire Engine Center, which the company has wanted to close, but that the federal courts have ordered to stay open because of job security language in the current contract.

A strike could follow Sunday’s meeting. Pratt, on Saturday, took out a full-page advertisement in the Hartford Courant, urging union members to “consider this important decision carefully and encourage you to vote.”
