VERNON, Conn. (AP) _ A former Willimantic magnet school teacher has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for having sexual relations with a 15-year-old student.
Adam Friedman of Newington was sentenced Thursday. He had pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor, possession of child pornography and violation of conditions of release.
The 46-year-old has been in custody since February 2009 after he broke a court order to have no contact with the girl after his arrest.
The Hartford Courant reports that Friedman told a Rockville Superior Court judge at his sentencing that he had offered to prosecutors be castrated in exchange for being spared a jail sentence “because prison is killing me.”
Friedman was fired from his job as director at the Arts at the Capitol Theater magnet school in Willimantic.
