Governor Authorizes New Class of Correctional Officers

CHESHIRE, Conn. (AP) _ Gov. M. Jodi Rell says she has authorized the Connecticut Department of Correction to begin training a new class of 100 correctional officers.

Rell says officers are in demand due to retirements and other changes. The governor was speaking Monday at graduation ceremonies for 117 correction officers and 11 other agency employees in Cheshire.

She said the Department of Correction has kept costs relatively low, closing a facility and cutting overtime. The agency employs 3,861 correction guards.
