Monday Night- Sorry about the lack of posts, it has been a busy ten days, almost two weeks in fact. Let’s go thru things in chronological order .

FOOTBALL vs SYRACUSE- A virtuoso performance by the UConn defense, never letting the Orange up for air. It was a dominant effort by everyone on the defensive side of the ball but especially the front four, led by Kendall Reyes who has picked up his game at the absolute right time. Offensively, UConn did more than enough, thanks to Jordan Todman and the O-Line which dominated the Syracuse defensive line.

MAUI- Zowie. Who expected THAT. The Wichita State win saw the Huskies capitalize on their free throw chances which the folks from the Valley and coach Gregg Marshall think were a little exorbitant. And oh yes, Kemba Walker was phenominal…The Michigan State win saw the Huskies dominate in the second half with Alex Oriakhi playing like a man possesed, Niels Giffey playing his best game as a Husky and, oh yes, Kemba Walker was phenominal…And then Kentucky with the Lahina Civic Center 3/4 full of Wildcat faithful, ready for what they thought was an inevitable win… It was….for UConn… The final nine minutes of the first half were as good a stretch of regular season basketball as the Huskies have played in a long, long time… Oriakhi was domaint, Giffey was great and Kemba Walker…enuf said. He took the team on his shoulders from the opening tip against Wichita State and never allowed them to let down. K-Walk hit every conceivable type of shot (though he didn’t dunk) and provided fabulous leadership… As good a three day performance as I’ve seen in a long, long time.

UConn deserves it’s #7 ranking and my guess is this group won’t rest on its early season laurels.

FOOTBALL vs CINCY- The senior day script played out they way all the Huskies would have wanted. Emotion in the pre game when the family of Jasper Howard was introduced, Anthony Sherman getting that elusive first touchdown, the UConn defense forcing the Bearcats to turn it over FIVE times, and Jordan Todman continuing his all world season.

And so now, the Huskies are one win away from a BCS Bowl…That’s right, the team that started 0-2 in the Big East has won four in a row and is on the precipice of a trip to the Fiesta or Orange Bowl (at least those are the two that everyone is talking about). But don’t think for a minute it will be easy. Skip Holtz will have his South Florida Bulls primed and ready to play…How ironic that Randy Edsall’s predecesor will be trying to keep UConn from the next step in their growth as a football program. Lots more on that later in the week.

Tuesday night at 7, it’s back at Gampel against old friend New Hampshire.  Geno Auriemma will make his weekly visit on SportsTalk prior to the game. Wednesday on SportsTalk, it’s Jim Calhoun and Thursday, a shortened edition of our weekly chat with Randy Edsall before the women kick off  conference play at South Florida. Friday, the men back at the XL for UMBC and then football Saturday starting at 6:30.

Hang on, it should be a fun ride.
