Troopers Out in Force for Holiday Weekend; 52 DUI Arrests

Since stepped-up Thanksgiving weekend traffic enforcement efforts began at midnight on Wednesday, State Police have made 52 arrests for driving under the influence, troopers announced Saturday morning.

State Police also issued 1,490 tickets for speeding, 97 tickets for seat belt violations, and 2,291 citations for other hazardous moving violations including unsafe lane changes, following too closely, failure to signal, and using a hand-held cell phone while driving.

Troopers also responded to 267 traffic accidents on roads they patrol. Forty two of those crashes involved injury.

While State Police report no fatalities on roads patrolled by troopers, there were at least two fatalities on the roads patrolled by local police: Thursday afternoon in Torrington and Friday morning in Bristol.

Stepped-up enforcement efforts continue through Monday.
