HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is urging the state Insurance Department to postpone a public hearing on a 20 percent rate increase requested by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Blumenthal said Monday that the agency needs more information such as trend estimates and other data to justify the request.

Debra Korta, a spokeswoman for the state agency, says the request would apply to individual health insurance policies for 48,000 people. She would not comment on Blumenthal’s request because a hearing officer for the Insurance Department will consider the matter and make a decision by Tuesday.

The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Anthem said in a statement that claims costs in Connecticut are rising by double digits and its rate request reflects the benefits provided and risks associated with those insured.
