MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) _ A lawyer for a former Connecticut state trooper who had been accused of sexually assaulting two girls ages 11 and 13 says charges against his client have been dismissed.
A lawyer for Jose Perez tells the Journal Inquirer that prosecutors dropped the charges because of “contradictory statements” by the girls and because their credibility would have been attacked at trial.
Perez, who was arrested in 2008, lived in East Hartford at the time but has since moved to Florida.
Attorney Walter Hussey said Perez had been staying with the girls’ family while he went through a divorce, and they were angry at him because he attempted to discipline them when they misbehaved.
Perez had been charged with fourth-degree sexual assault.
