Hartford Man Playing with Gun Pleads Guilty to Friend's Death

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A Hartford man who told police that he accidentally shot and killed his friend has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter.

Timothy Foote said many people were playing with the gun and he did not know it was loaded when he shot 24-year-old Philip Davis in January.By pleading to manslaughter on Wednesday, the 22-year-old Foote faces a five- to 12-year prison sentence rather than 40 years.

Prosecutors say witnesses to the shooting had a different version of events. They said Foote knew the gun was loaded when he pointed it at Davis and pulled the trigger twice. Prosecutors say the two men intended to use the gun to confront a man who had robbed Davis the night before.
