Shelton Police have arrested a 63-year-old man on charges that he was inappropriately touching a horse.
Police were called to an address on Partridge Lane around 6:15 p.m. Monday on a report that Marian Wegiel of Shelton appeared to be touching a female horse in a sexual manner and that the horse appeared to be in pain, said authorities.
Wegiel, who was in a corral, stated that the horses had been scared by a loud noise and that he was comforting them, said police.
There were three horses in the corral, but only the female horse appeared to be touched, said police. The homeowner called a veterinarian to inspect the horses.
Wegiel was arrested on charges of cruelty to animals, fourth-degeree sexual assault, third-degree criminal trespass, and second-degree breach of peace. He is free on $500 bond and due in Derby Superior Court on November 1.
