Magic Johnson at Hartford Fundraiser

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Former basketball star Earvin “Magic” Johnson is lending some cachet to the YMCA of Greater Hartford’s fundraiser.

The five-time NBA champion and Olympic gold medalist is the guest of honor at the Friday event at the Wilson-Gray Family YMCA on Albany Avenue.

Money raised at the fundraiser will be used to support youth development, healthy living and social responsibility at Wilson-Gray.

Johnson played 13 years in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers and announced in 1991 that he had HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. His longterm survival has inspired others and since his playing days ended he has become a successful businessman and dedicated his life to supporting programs that benefit urban communities.
