Hartford Attorney Hubert Santos confirms that he has filed an appeal on behalf of former Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez, convicted of felony corruption in June. He says he filed the paperwork Friday.
Santos says he’s asking for a new trial because the Superior Court case consolidated two separate charges against the former mayor — one involving an attempt to arrange a payment for a political ally, and another involving work done at his private residence by a city contractor.
At the time, Santos says his client would have testified in one case, but not the other, but was not given an opportunity to do so.
Perez is free on bond pending his appeal. He faces three years in prison.
