CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) _ Sen. Joe Lieberman says the Obama administration was right to issue a rare U.S. traveler alert over possible terrorist threats in Europe.
Lieberman, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, told reporters after an address to a Connecticut business group Monday that based on intelligence information he’s received the administration would have been irresponsible to not put out an alert or advisory about traveling to Europe.
He said the advisory is an attempt tell the public that although the U.S. has not been hit badly since Sept. 11, 2001, the “Islamist extremist enemy” still seeks ways to attack the U.S. and its allies.
The Obama administration on Sunday warned Americans of potential terrorist threats in Europe and urged them to be vigilant in public places.
