New Hampshire Man Critical After Branford Stabbing

An  argument at the Chowder Pot Restaurant on East Main  Street in Branford   Saturday night ended with  a stabbing.43 year old Monte Freire of Nashua,New Hampshire was stabbed in the neck  and is in critical condition at Yale New Haven Hospital.Police say Freire was in the area with friends for a baseball tournament.Those friends, according to police tracked down the suspect in the parking lot.45 year old John Mayor of New Haven  was charged with Assault in the First Degree,Interfering  with an Officer,Tampering with Evidence,Breach of Peace and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Bond was  set at  $500,000 .

Police believe the  argument in the bar may have been over  being fans of rival  baseball teams.Police  found the knife allegedly used in a nearby wooded area.
