Flood Warning, Watch in State Today

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Weather forecasters say more heavy rain and high winds are expected in Connecticut as the remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole hit New England.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for New Haven and Fairfield counties, a flood warning for Litchfield County and a flood watch for the rest of the state for Friday morning. Forecasters say some parts of the state could see another 2 to 4 inches of rain.

The Weather Service also says wind gusts could hit 40 to 50 mph.

The massive East Coast rainstorm is being blamed for five deaths in North Carolina.

SLIPPERY TRAVEL AND MAY BLOCK STORM DRAINS RESULTING IN ADDITIONAL STREET FLOODING.

A FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR HAS BEEN REPORTED.
STREAM RISES WILL BE SLOW AND FLASH FLOODING IS NOT EXPECTED.

* A WIDE BAND OF HEAVY RAIN WILL SLOWLY MOVE WEST TO EAST ACROSS
SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND TODAY. A WIDESPREAD 1 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN
IS EXPECTED TODAY WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS UP TO 4 OR 5
INCHES POSSIBLE. THE RAIN WILL TAPER OFF ACROSS NORTHEAST
CONNECTICUT AND CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON.
THE RAIN HEAVY AT TIMES WILL LIKELY LINGER INTO EARLY EVENING
ACROSS EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS BEFORE TAPERING OFF.
* ALTHOUGH SOME SMALL STREAM FLOODING IS POSSIBLE…THE GREATEST
CONCERN WILL BE POOR DRAINAGE AND URBAN FLOODING. UP TO 2
