HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ State health officials say a Westport resident has become the eighth person in Connecticut to contract the West Nile virus this year.
Officials said Wednesday that the person is between 50 to 59 years old and is hospitalized with meningitis, one of the potential complications from the mosquito-borne virus.
The Public Health Department says the unidentified person became ill in the third week of this month and had fever, headache, nausea and vomiting.
Mosquitoes in 23 Connecticut towns have tested positive for the virus. Besides the Westport resident, people living in Bridgeport, Clinton, Greenwich, Hartford, New Haven, Stamford and Trumbull have tested positive for West Nile. Two other state residents contracted the virus out of state.
