Mother's Boyfriend Charged with Injuries to Infant in Intensive Care

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ Police say a six-months-old infant is nursing 11 broken ribs, a lacerated liver and spleen as well as internal bleeding after his mother’s boyfriend allegedly squeezed him in Connecticut.

The New Haven Register reports Monday that the baby is in the intensive care unit at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital.

Yosue-Amil Sierra Gomez is being held Monday in lief of $150,000 bail. The 22-year-old was charged with assault in second degree together with assault and risk of injury to a child.

It was not immediately clear if he has legal representation.

Gomez allegedly told officers that he may have squeezed the child too hard after tripping over a dumbbell in his apartment.

He also allegedly told officials that he shook the infant after he almost fell off him while he was sleeping.
