One Dead, Two Injured in Killingly Crash

State Police say one person is dead and two others are injured following a crash on Route 101 in East Killingly early Saturday morning.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m., troopers say a 2000 Nissan Maxima traveling westbound near the Rhode Island state line left the road and struck a dirt embankment and a utility pole before coming to rest on the roadway.

A passenger in the car, Steven J. Chandler, 22, of Hartford was pronounced dead at the scene, said police.

The driver, Ricardo K. Lewis, 21 and another passenger Melvin Gordon Jr., 25, both of East Hartford were injured in the accident, said police. Lewis was air-lifted to UMass Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts; Gordon was air-lifted to Providence Hospital in Rhode Island. Both men were listed in stable condition.
