FEMA Rejects Disaster Aid for Bridgeport Tornado

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has rejected Connect’s request for a federal disaster declaration as a result of the June tornado in Fairfield County.

The storm touched down briefly in Bridgeport on June 24,  causing damage estimated at more than $3 million.   FEMA found that the storm did not cause enough financial impact that state and local governments and charitable groups cannot handle it.

The Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security says the agency will explore other assistance options —  including the Small Business Administration’s Disaster Loan Program.
