Rally Against Hazing, Bullying

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ Protesters are calling for an end to alleged hazing and bullying at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.

About two dozen people rallied at the Fairfield Catholic school Tuesday. Among them was 23-year-old Jasmine Vega of the Bronx, N.Y., who claims Sacred Heart officials failed to respond appropriately after she was criminally hazed at a sorority initiation party last October.

Vega told the Connecticut Post that she and other Delta Phi Kappa candidates were forced to do military exercises for two hours, and she alleges a sorority alumna struck her forearms and caused injuries that require surgery.

Sacred Heart officials say the sorority and some students were disciplined. They say they took immediate action and the school has a clear no-hazing policy.

No one was arrested.
