Inmate in Hartford Gang Murder Fatally Stabbed in Federal Prison

CANAAN, Pa. (AP) _ A Connecticut man serving a life sentence on murder-for-hire charges is dead after being stabbed inside a federal prison in northeastern Pennsylvania.

A prison spokeswoman says 50-year-old Jose Antonio Perez died last week in the altercation with an unidentified inmate at the federal prison in Canaan.

Spokeswoman Kim Straesser declined to release the cause of death, but the Wayne County coroner’s office says Perez died of a stab wound to the neck.

Perez was serving a life sentence for charges related to cocaine distribution and the 1996 murder of alleged gang leader Theodore “Teddy” Casiano in Hartford.

Straesser says the FBI is investigating the altercation.
